Across twelve archived snapshots the count has doubled every 8.1 months on average (log-linear fit, R² = 0.957) — and the pace has been slowing: the most recent interval, March to October 2026 (+18%), implies a ~32-month doubling.

Each point is the numTotalItems counter machine-read from an Internet Archive capture of huggingface.co/models, dated by the capture's Memento-Datetime header — the page's own number, archived, not estimated. The count is model repositories: forks, finetunes and duplicates all count, so this measures publishing activity, not distinct capabilities. The doubling time is a least-squares fit on log2(count) over 12 points — a 2022–2026 average, not the current pace (recent intervals are slower), and not a forecast.
